Common Opts For No Kanye Assistance For New Album
Posted on May 1, 2008
Common, preparing his eighth studio album, is looking towards a more electro sound than his previous releases, and will create the album without any help from Kanye West despite heavily influencing Be and Finding Forever previously. No beats have been developed by Kanye this time, for the new album entitled Invincible Summer, with Common hooking up with The Neptunes and Outkast producer Mr D.J.
"Kanye was focusing on his 'Glow in the Dark' show, so he hasn't been able to make it to the studio to weigh in," Common, who is signed to West's G.O.O.D. Music imprint, told Billboard. "But it worked out well, organically. The Neptunes & Mr. DJ came up with a fresh sound for me."
Cee-Lo and Chester French make appearances on the album, along with MC Santogold who Common commented is "one of my favorite artists right now." Common continued to describe the general feel of the album. "I created this music for the summer time, it's about feeling good. This is the type of music I felt was missing from my body of work."
Invincible Summer is expected to hit stores in the summer, with no confirmed release date as of yet.
