Remy Ma has just been sentenced to eight years behind bars in Manhattan Criminal Court, on accounts of weapons and coercion charges. On March 27th the jury convicted Remy of first degree assault, weapon charges and attempted coercion. Remy was accused of shooting her former friend, Makeda Barnes-Joseph previous July. The situation allegedly spiralled from a missing $3000 which Remy had blamed the victim of stealing.

In court, Remy cried as she told the court; "I stand here today as Remy Mackie," a reference to Papoose's last name. "I'm a loving wife, mother and loving daughter and loving sister to my brothers and sisters."

Remy then continued her speech, acknowledging the victim, Barnes-Joseph. "I apologize for not saving you from your physical and mental scars." Prior to issuing the eight year sentence, the judge gave the following statement.

"I've learned Remy is an intelligent and charitable young woman," the judge said. "She's overcome a difficult childhood. Her music has inspired people in need. She's loved and has support from her family."
"This is somewhat of a pattern. This is not the first time she has been engaged in a violent act. She never took responsibility for her actions. This has nothing to do with rap it's about the actions of one person. Remy is an extremely angry young woman who feels the rules do not apply to her."

Papoose, angered by the verdict, got into an altercation with one of the court officers, "All y'all want is f*cking money," he yelled. "This is bullsh*t. Remy is innocent." Remy's family were forced to restrain the rapper, who earlier had allegedly tried to smuggle a key to a pair of handcuffs into the jail, resulting in the couple's ceremony to be abandoned.
